On Tuesday, January 16th, 2018 California Highway Patrol officers responded to a collision around 11:00 pm. The crash took place at Dorothy Street and Golden Valley Road. Sadly, Matthew Thibodeau, 31, of Canyon Country died at the scene. CHP reported that Thibodeau was driving a white 2002 Honda Civic south on Golden Valley Road, approaching Dorothy Street “at a high rate of speed.”
“A tan Toyota Sienna was traveling northbound on Golden Valley Road, within the No. 1 lane, (and) entered the intersection of Dorothy Street. The driver of the white Honda … made an immediate left turn from the No. 1 lane of Golden Valley Road to eastbound Dorothy Street against a red traffic arrow, directly in front of the Toyota Sienna’s path of travel. The used white Honda Civic and the tan Toyota Sienna were involved in a head-on collision,” the CHP statement said.
These types of accidents have become all too common in the state of California. Over the past several years, it seems to be the case that multiple DUI accidents are reported every single night. While most would not think of Tuesday night as being a popular night to drink or go out to the bar, remember that this was the week of the Martin Luther King holiday on Monday so it may very well have been the case that many took a few extra days off work.
No matter what day of the week it is, we always suggest driving with caution when you are on the roads after 9:00 pm at night. If you have had any amount of alcohol, it is always better to be safe than sorry. Lyft and Uber make it very easy to get a ride home after you have had a few adult beverages while out. Most bars and restaurants will also offer to call a cab for you. All you have to do is ask.
